Atelier Earth is founded by Maria Haye and is inspired by the wabi-sabi philosophy where one finds beauty in things that are imperfect, transient and incomplete.
In the present time, it stands for the beauty of decay and given the growing focus on sustainability, this philosophy fits in seamlessly. It encourages preserving objects with a history rather than throwing them away. It stands for asymmetry and a ruggedness inherent in natural materials. A percentage of the proceeds from each painting goes to an environmental organization.
Each of the artworks are unique and reflect the (im)perfections of nature. The first series of art works, The Elements, is based on the four elements: Water (cohesion and flexibility), Earth (strengths and intransigence), Air (volatility and material emptiness), Fire (destructive yet warm). The artworks in a variety of dimensions are made on cotton canvas, covered with a linen fabric and water based paint, framed in a hand finished wooden frame.
Nature remains an important source of inspiration. In addition to The Elements, the Nature Sequence is in development. These commissioned abstract paintings in themes such as soil, clay, and sand can be tailored to your personal wishes and preferences. The artworks can be made in different dimensions on request.
